Therapy Approaches
I use an integrative and holistic approach to talk-therapy, meaning that I incorporate a blend of elements from multiple counseling theories and therapy modalities to treat and support your whole complex self – mind, body and spirit. The counseling theories below are the ones that most heavily influence my practice.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic Theory explores unconscious processes, unresolved conflicts, and past relationships to increase client self-awareness and understanding. Engaging in psychodynamic therapy will help you uncover unconscious motivations, biases and social patterns that lead to self-defeating or unwanted behavior. Developing an understanding of your unconscious emotions will enhance your relationships by increasing trust and deepening connection with the people in your life.
Somatic Therapy
Somatic therapy is a form of body-centered therapy that focuses on the interconnectedness of your mind and body. Somatic therapy is based on the foundational principle that trauma, stress, and unresolved emotions are stored or stuck in your body. By bringing awareness to your bodily sensations or pain, trapped emotions and trauma can be released from your body to promote healing both physically and mentally.
Person Centered Therapy
Person-centered therapy posits all individuals have growth potential and are motivated towards self-actualization. In other words, the client (not the therapist) is ultimately the expert on their own life and has the capacity to identify for themselves what they need to heal, change and thrive. The three (3) core tenants of Person-centered therapy are: acceptance without judgement, empathy and a genuine therapeutic relationship. In Person-centered therapy, the therapist’s role is to create a non-judgmental space for self-exploration and consciousness raising, trusting that the best solutions always come from within the client.
