A performance focused non-clinical alternative to traditional talk therapy.

Mental Performance Consulting is a non-clinical alternative to traditional therapy using mental skills to enhance performance and increase enjoyment. Mental performance consulting is rooted in Sport & Performance Psychology. The purpose of performance psychology and mental performance consulting is to help humans learn how to perform at their optimal level consistently under pressure and increase their enjoyment while performing (American Psychological Association Division 47, 2011).

What’s the difference between individual mental performance consulting and counseling?

Individual mental performance consulting is a non-clinical alternative to traditional talk therapy focused on mental skills development, training, and strategies specifically for sport and performance enhancement. Mental performance consulting is rooted in the study of Sport & Performance Psychology. Aspects of mental performance consulting include confidence, concentration, self-talk, imagery, leadership, arousal regulation, routines, goal-setting, and other aspects specifically related to sport and performance. On the other hand, counseling is traditional talk-therapy focused on mental health, healing, and holistic self-care. Counseling extends beyond the realm of sport and performance. As a Licensed Professional Counseling Candidate (LPCC) in the state of Colorado, I can provide individual counseling services to Colorado-based residents only. Still unsure which one is the best for you? Sign up for a free 15-minute consultation to determine which path is best for you. What you can expect working with me.

My approach to mental performance consulting is informed by these foundational tenants.

Relational Culture Theory

I believe that relationships are an essential part of one’s mental performance and growth process. Approaching mental performance through the lens of relational cultural theory (RCT) helps people recognize unhealthy power dynamics, learn how to navigate conflict, establish safe boundaries, repair ruptures, and ultimately improve relationships.

Positive Psychology

Positive Psychology is an evidence-based approach to strength assessments that asks what’s “right” with people instead of what’s “wrong” with them. I use a framework of Positive Psychology that builds upon individual strengths to increase confidence, cultivate life balance, and find meaning in sport and performance.

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a mindfulness-based approach to self-acceptance and somatic awareness. IFS helps people navigate competition and life with the 8 Cs: confidence, calm, compassion, courage, creativity, clarity, curiosity, and connectedness. IFS has proven to be highly effective for quieting the inner-critic, resolving inner conflicts, and slowing emotional reactivity through guided mindfulness exercises.
